Mr. Rex Odom, age 82, passed away Monday, January 30, 2006 at Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Mr. Odom one of eleven children was born in Reagor Springs just outside of Waxahachie to Sam and Nora (Paul) Odom. He attended Waxahachie elementary and High Schools. Rex served in WWII with the 8th Air Force 305th Bombardment Group as a B-17 tail gunner. He married Mary Jo Bunch July 2, 1943 in Malone, TX. Mr. Odom was a local businessman, an investor, and a civil servant who quietly promoted Waxahachie. He served on numerous boards and committees in Waxahachie including the Chamber of Commerce and City Council. He was a 50-year Mason, 50-year Lions Club member and officer, and 50-year member of the Ferris Heights United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards and committees. He preferred to be low key and behind the scenes, always encouraging, advising and helping others.
His loving wife of 62 years Mary Jo Odom of Waxahachie, 3 sons; Jimmie Rex Odom and wife Yvonne of Waxahachie, Rodney Odom and wife Marcia of Trinity, North Carolina, Gregg Odom and wife Debbie of Waxahachie survive Mr. Odom. Also surviving are 2 sisters; Fleeta Spencer of Ennis and Maxine Prude of Coppell, 5 granddaughters; Kim Brown, Rhonda Anderson and Keli Odom of Waxahachie, Angie Odom of Trinity, North Carolina, Amy Wolfington of Walkertown, North Carolina, 2 grandsons; Mark Odom of Austin, TX, John David Odom of Greensboro, North Carolina, 4 Great Grandchildren ; Ryan Anderson, Brayden Garcia, Zeb and Jude Brown of Waxahachie.
Preceding Rex in death were his parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:30 to 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the Ferris Heights United Methodist Church. The Celebration of Life will be 3:00 PM Friday, February 3, 2006 at the Waxahachie Civic Center with Dr. Eugene Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in the Waxahachie City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Ron Bunch, David Odom, Larry Burks, Buddy Odom, Gene Tekel, Monty Story. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jim Pitts, Fred Edrington, Joe Pitts, George Maxwell, T.K. Wheeler, Lonnell Wilson, Bill Pitts, Frank A. (Tres) Blankenbeckler, Jim Rodgers, Buck Jordan, Bill Pearman, George Singleton, Gene O'Donnell, Bill Major, Steve Chapman and Marcus Hickerson.
