Michael Walters

Michael Cogburn Walters, 78 of Richardson, Texas passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on September 27, 1938 in Marshall, Texas to the late Mahlon L. and Hazel I. Miller Walters.

He attended and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1957. After high school Michael attended Texas Western College in El Paso from 1957 to 1958, from 1958 to 1960 The University of Texas at Austin, Texas; he then joined the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 and attained rank of First Lieutenant and received his honorable discharge. He returned to the University of Texas in Austin from 1963 to 1965 then transferred to the South Texas College of Law in Houston where he received his degree in Law.

While in college he was a member of the Insurance Society, The University of Texas Honor Court, Associate Justice, South Texas College of Law in Houston. Michael received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from the University of Texas in Austin in January 1965 and received his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in Houston and received his license to practice law in December of 1969. Michael was a longtime member of The Masonic Lodge, in 1972 he ran for State Representative District 80, Houston Texas, was a past member of the Houston Bar Association.

Michael was an in house lawyer for Fireman's Fund Insurance in Dallas from 1986 to 1990. He will be dearly missed by his family and all that knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his wife: D'Anna Morrow Walters of Richardson, Texas; 1 Sister in Law: Jessica Walters of Burleson, Texas and 1 Sister: Jeri Lynne Wagner of Jefferson, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Mahlon Walters.

Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 12:30 PM Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
