Michael Dixon Routt, 75 of Red Oak, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 2, 2015 at his residence. He was born to the late Theo Harris Bailey and Lillian Agnes Bailey on March 26, 1940 in Dallas. Butch as he was known by his family and friends, served in the U. S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He began his career in the banking industry. He worked several years for the Texas Comptroller's Office and eventually retired from there. He went back to work for the Texas Department of Correction as a security officer and retired from there as well. Butch enjoyed hunting and fishing, horseback riding and was a founding member of the Cockrell Hill Saddle Club. He also enjoyed family history and genealogy, eating out and enjoying time with family and friends. Over the years he has mentored many children, his own children, nieces, nephews and all of their friends. Most of them attribute the fact that they are as good a man as they are because of him. He was always willing to give a helping hand and was always readily available with advice. He is survived by his wife, Eilleen Carroll Routt; his son, Donald Richard King; his daughter, Tonya Karleen Richard; his son-in-law, Carl (Bucky) Richard; his grandchildren, Michelle Sheffield Bernal and her husband, Julian, Jeremy Don King and his wife, Shiree, Jason Murray King and his wife, Tiffany and Alina King; he was also survived by 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lillian Agnes and Theo Harris Bailey; his sister, Jeannine Yvonne Routt; his brother-in-law, Fred Ashner; his brother, Patrick Harris Routt; 3 beautiful grandchildren, Amanda Leslie Sheffield, Craig Darren Sheffield and Kevin Michael Sheffield. Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Lone Star Cowboy Church, 1011 East Ovilla Road, Red Oak, with Pastor Jon Coe officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas.
