Michael L. McElroy, age 67
November 23, 1939
April 4, 2007

Mr. Michael McElroy passed away Wednesday in Cypress, Texas. He was born in Waxahachie to Jerry and Ruth (Lewis) McElroy. Michael graduated from Sunset High School in Oak Cliff in 1958. He graduated from the University of Alaska in 1974 with an aviation degree. He served in the U.S. Air Force from May 1961 until August 1964. He respected the military and those who served. Michael loved the history of the military and was fascinated by WWII in particular.

Michael was introduced to aviation by his older brother, Jerry. His life-long love of aviation started when he began flying lessons at Redbird Airport near Dallas. He held various corporate and charter aviation positions, including LTV Corporation, Jet Fleet, Jet Alaska and Jet East. He flew for Frontier Airlines for four years. All his experience led to his positions as first officer and captain with America West Airlines in Phoenix, the highlight of his aviation career. He began his career with America West, now US Airways, on May 18, 1987. He retired from America West in November 23, 1999, his 60th birthday.

Michael's passions were his family and friends, followed closely by golf. He loved to entertain family and friends, and could guarantee to bring a smile to all who knew him. Michael will be remembered for his laughter and love of life.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; daughters, Leslie Lastimosa, Michelle McElroy of Irving and Vanessa Koszyk of La Habra, California; grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Michaela and Ethan; sister, Martha McElroy of Glenn Heights and brothers, Jerry of Mooreville, North Carolina and Don of Red Oak, TX.; nephews, Sean and Jerry McElroy; nieces, Kim Buttram and Erin McElroy; aunt and uncle, Barbara Hodges of Grand Prairie and James Lewis of Waxahachie.

Michael's passions were his family and friends, followed closely by golf. He loved to entertain family and friends, and could guarantee to bring a smile to all who knew him. Michael will be remembered for his laughter and love of life. "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all", quote attributed to Helen Keller, is so much like Michael, according to his wife Rosemary.

A Memorial Service will be 4:30 PM Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
