Michael "Mike" Jay Alford, 58, passed away on October 3, 2017 in Dallas. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home located at 1826 W. Highway 287 Business in Waxahachie.
At the age of 16, Mike was in a diving accident which left him a quadriplegic. He went on to earn a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington before his 23rd birthday. He retired from the Student Services Department at Cedar Valley Community College in Lancaster in October of 2014 after more than 30 years of service. Mike earned the awards of Employee of the Year and Part-Time Employee of the year during his time at Cedar Valley. He was named by the Junior Jaycees as one of the top 10 young men in America. Mike enjoyed fishing, cruising, going to Winstar and gourmet food.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, John Alford.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Alford; uncles, Harry Alford and his wife, Troyana, Robert Charles Wilkes and his wife, Lisa, and James Mont Alford and his wife, Kathy; several cousins and his very special, loyal caregiver and best friend, Brandon Castillo, who was with him for 8 years and allowed Mike to enjoy the things he loved to do.
Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie is in charge of the arrangements.
