Melva Jo Shinpaugh, 84, of Midlothian, Texas, went to be with her Lord on February 10th, 2020, at Arlington Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Melva Jo was born in Dallas, TX to Melvin Lester Henderson and Jeannette Josephine Henderson, nee Trammell on September 2, 1935.
Jo, as she was affectionately called, married Tommy Olin McCrary when she was nineteen and they had four children. Jo worked most of her adult life for Sears Roebuck and Company, holding management positions throughout the years. She retired from Sears. Those who worked with her loved and respected her.
Jo cared for her mother Jeannette until her death and was with her son David when he left this world for heaven in 1994. After which she relocated to Nashville, Tennessee to be near her brother, Gene. There she cared for him until his death in 1996. She then moved to Edmond, OK to be near her adult children and their families and was very active in her little church there. She reconnected with her dear friend, Edward. and they married. She returned to Texas and spent her last years in happy, wedded bliss with Edward. They were very much in love and enjoyed their many friends in Waxahachie and Midlothian.
Jo is proceeded in death by her parents, Melvin and Jeannette Henderson, her husband, Tommy McCrary, her son David Brian McCrary, her brother Reverend Melvin Eugene Henderson, and her beloved husband of twelve years, Edward Larry Shinpaugh who went to heaven on September 1, 2019.
Jo is survived by her son Randy McCrary and wife Barbara of Edmond, OK, daughter Elizabeth Nichols and husband Earl of Oklahoma City, OK, son Mark McCrary and wife Michelle of Del City, OK, stepson Richard Shinpaugh and wife Connie of Waxahachie, TX, stepson David Shinpaugh and wife Jedon of Midlothian, TX, stepdaughter Melanie Walker and husband Lee of Caddo Mills, TX, stepson Larry Shinpaugh and wife Karrie of Midlothian, TX. Jo is also survived by grandchildren, David McCrary and wife Elizabeth, Deana Nichols, Gina Prachard and husband Eric, Geoffrey McCrary, Beverly McRae, Duncan McCrary, Quinn McCrary, Dana McCrary and Fox McCrary, numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and extended family.
We would like to express a special thank you to Jo’s caregivers these past months including the nurses at Arlington Memorial Hospital Hospice and Community Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
At Jo’s request there will not be a funeral service. A Celebration of Life has been tentatively set for March 7th, 2020 in Waxahachie, TX. More information will follow in the days ahead. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to either The Alzheimer’s Association or The American Cancer Society.
