Melody LaNell (Townley) Winters, 40, of Venus, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at Methodist Central in Dallas, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Melody was born July 21, 1967, in Dallas, to RD and Donna (Stevens) Townley. She was raised in Palmer, Lancaster and Cedar Hill, where she was a straight A student and loved playing basketball.
Melody worked for 14 years as bookkeeper and manager of the Crystal Chandelier and for more than 10 years as bookkeeper for Hotel Development in Dallas.
Melody married Ben Winters on Aug. 30, 1997. She was a wonderful mother and her family was her life.
Melody was very active in the Venus Youth Sports Association where she coached soccer, T-ball and basketball and was a team mom for football.
She was a loving and compassionate person that was an inspiration to everyone that she met.
Melody and her family attended Ranch House Cowboy Church in Maypearl where she taught Sunday school for a short time before becoming ill.
Services to celebrate Melody's life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Cowboy Church of Ellis County, Waxahachie, with Rev. Dave Wilkerson, pastor of the Ranch House Cowboy Church in Maypearl, officiating. Interment will follow in the Palmer Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Fred and Virginia Littrell and R. Townley; and one nephew, Mason Townley.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ben Winters of Venus; two sons, Dakota and Cuyler Winters; her mother, Donna Johnson of Venus; her father and stepmother, RD and Belinda Townley of Palmer; grandmother, Juanita Britton of Corsicana; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Tammy and Dino Reyna of Walnut Springs and Amy Johnson of Caddo Mills; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Ron and Saundra Townley, Stacy Boyett and Lance Boyett, all of Palmer; her father- and mother-in-law, Stan and Debbie Winters of Mertens, Texas; her mother- and father-in-law, Cindy and Carl Morgan of Borger, Texas; one sister- and brother-in-law, Courtney and Steve Reedy; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Shane and Donna Winters and Jonathan Morgan; eight nephews; three nieces; two great-nieces; three great-nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Melody Winters Memorial Fund in care of Citizens National Bank, 200 North Elm Street, Waxahachie, Texas 75165.
