Max Butler

Max Butler passed away on Friday September 3, 2021 at the age of 72.

He was born October 16, 1948 in Milo Oklahoma.

Max was an unforgettable man with a larger than life personality. He was a creative and inventive person who restlessly sought out new things. Whether it was his early love for building and flying RC planes, his craftsmanship in chiseling intricate wood carvings, or his determination to create the most famous barbecue sauce, Max did everything with an intensity in his soul.

Max’s career was as varied and broad as his hobbies. In the 1960’s he was a proud Marine; in the 70’s he was a pilot and flight instructor; in the 80’s he was a successful businessman who started his own appliance rental chain, and even his own arcade. Then, during the early 80’s Max felt called to ministry. He sold his businesses and moved his family to Dallas where he would graduate from Christ for the Nations Institute. He was passionate about his faith and spent many years enthusiastically teaching the Bible. He loved to study and to teach others, and could often be found with his books and pen and paper in hand. He finished off his career working as a revenue agent for the IRS, where he retired after many years of dedicated service.

He was preceded in death by his father, Max Sr, and his mother, Clara. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, his children Julie Gray and Brian Butler, son-in-law Allen Gray and daughter-in-law Carla Butler, grandchildren Kelsey, Caleb, Noah, Emma and Jude.

Max was truly a one of a kind man who wore many hats during his lifetime. He will be missed and his absence will be felt by many.
