Mary Lou (Prather) Stroope age 74, Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and friend departed this earthly plain to be with her beloved Lord on October 17, 2003. Mary was born in Ellis County to William Howard Prather and Tennie (Stephenson) Prather.

A life long Ellis County resident, Mary graduated from Waxahachie High School. She married Jewel Edward (J.E.) Stroope on November 8, 1947. This union produced a daughter, Karon Elizabeth Stroope and one son Bruce Edward Stroope.

Mary was active in her church and all its related activities. She was the rock for many family members as well as for many friends. She was a tireless worker in the service of the church. During her long relationship with the Lord she was a member of First Baptist Church in Waxahachie, and most recently Ferris Heights United Methodist Church in Waxahachie. She will also be missed by all of her friends in several clubs in Waxahachie as Bridge was one of Mary's many passions for over 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Edwin and Ewell Prather. She is survived by a sister, Vivian Brewer of Ennis Texas, and her husband Jewel Edward (J.E.) Stroope of Waxahachie, her daughter, Karon Stroope Jacobs and husband Les Jacobs of Waxahachie. Son, Bruce Stroope and his wife Gloria Stroope of Shreveport Louisiana. Granddaughters: Laura Celine Capehart and her husband Todd Capehart of Waxahachie, Texas , Rachael Ellaine Jacobs of Richardson. Grandsons: Chad Edward Stroope and Jeramy Alan Stroope of Shreveport Louisiana, Hayden Scott Jacobs of Dallas. Four great grandchildren: Britni Nicole Capehart and Tristan Reid Capehart of Waxahachie, Nathan Scott Jacobs and Zachary Scott Jacobs of Richardson, numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members.

The family will receive friends and relatives 6 to 8 pm Sunday at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 pm Monday, October 20, 2003 at the Ferris Heights United Methodist Church. Dr. Sam Tullock officiating. Nephews will be pallbearers. Interment will follow in Waxahachie City Cemetery.
