Mary Luella "Sissie" Wilson Mayo of Waxahachie, Texas died of cancer on December 9, 2009 at the age of 67. She was born on January 25, 1942 in Muenster, Cooke County, Texas being a fifth generation Texan.
She began her education in Valley View, Texas and during her seventh grade year moved to East Texas where she graduated from Linden-Kildare High School in Cass County in 1960. After graduating second in her class she continued her education by attending Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas graduating in 1964 with a degree in Home Economics. Her first job was with the Community Public Service Electrical Company as their Home Service Advisor in the area around Whitewright, Texas. She transferred to the Clifton, Texas area where she met her husband. She and her husband lived for a brief time in the Clifton, Houston, Corpus Christi, and Plano areas. During this time she taught at the junior college level and then for many years worked as a dietician for a number of nursing homes. About 1980 they moved to Waxahachie where she worked as the Food Service Director for Waxahachie I.S.D. for a number of years before working for Region XI Educational Service Center out of Ft. Worth as a Child Nutrition Specialist building the program and serving 77 school districts. In 2004 she retired from the service center but continued to work as a consultant and child nutrition educator until her death. She belonged to a number of groups including the Texas Association of School Nutritionists, the Retired Teachers' Association, and the Waxahachie Genealogy Society. Being a modest person many people were not aware of the variety of recognitions, accomplishments, and respect that she received throughout her lifetime. She was a leader, a developer, and a mentor in both her professional and personal life.
Although she was successful in her chosen professional career, she cherished most the richness of the vast number of friends that she accumulated during both her personal and professional life. She and her husband had long-term friendships with a very special group, Larry and Glinda Felty, Jim and Annette Cooper, and Bob and Casey Schoolfield, all of Waxahachie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. David Mayo, her parents, Cord L Wilson and Mary Lee Jones Wilson Bean Morgan, and older brothers, Charles Jadeen Wilson, and Gary Don Wilson.
She is survived by her sisters, Dorotha Carol Wilson Hogue and husband, Gene of Mesquite, Texas, Linda Gail Bean Griffin and husband, Roy, of Longview, Texas, and Fanette Bean Lindsey, and husband, Jimmy of Marietta, Texas. Also surviving her are sisters-in-law Elsie Wilson of Aledo, Texas and Ann Thomas of Irving, Texas, along with a number of nieces and nephews and many dear friends and colleagues.
Services to celebrate her life will be held at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 with burial services at 12:00 at the Dallas Ft.
