Mary Holmes

Mary Elizabeth Grigsby Holmes passed peacefully through Heaven's gates Saturday, October 10, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Royce Aldon and Clara Belle Grigsby; her brothers, Zackie Wayne and James Royce Grigsby and wife, Gladys. Mary is survived by her husband of 51 years and nine months, Dan Holmes; her daughters, Resa Holmes Sterle and Jamie Holmes Dimon and her husband Stewart; her grandchildren, Megan, Philip and wife, Chelsi, Clara and Sabrina Sterle; Joshua and Bailey Petton; her great grandson, Ayden Petton; she is also survived by her brothers, Jack Grigsby and his wife, Helen; Tony Grigsby and his wife Mary; and numerous nieces and nephews. Waiting to meet Mary in Heaven were her beloved fur babies, Bobby and Bear. Mary was born in a two room house in Luna, Texas on February 17, 1942. She married Dan on January 3, 1964. She lived in Ovilla for the rest of her life. Mary was very active in the Girls Missionary Auxiliary for many years in the 1970's and was instrumental in many girls getting to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. She loved to travel; she and Dan drove many miles across the USA and Canada over the years, Colorado being her favorite. Old western movies and television shows were a favorite form of entertainment, as well as dining at her favorite restaurants, especially El Fenix. Favorite memories of Mary were her laugh, hugs and cooking, especially her Thanksgiving dressing. Although we miss her here, it helps knowing we will see her again. The family has chosen the Ellis County SPCA for donations to be made in place of flowers if desired. Services to celebrate Mary's life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2015 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Lang officiating. Interment will follow at the Ovilla Cemetery.
