Mary Eleanor Farrar, age 84

Mary Eleanor Green Farrar, of Waxahachie, peacefully went home to her Lord and Savior on August 7, 2003 after a lengthy illness. She was 84. At her bedside were her family and friends from Renfro Healthcare Center and Family First Hospice. She was born to Mary McKnight Green and Nathaniel Green on September 25, 1918 in Ferris, Texas. Mary was a wonderful Christian wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

She graduated from Ferris High School as valedictorian of her class. Mary was married to Randall Farrar on June 21, 1939 in Palmer, Texas. After living and farming in west Texas for a short time, they returned to Ellis County where they remained and farmed until their retirement. She also worked for Shannon's Pharmacy on the Square and Skillerns Drug Store in Waxahachie.

She lived a very full and active life in which she always enjoyed giving to and helping others. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie and the Fellowship Class. She was a past member of the Palmer Study Club, the Palmer Garden Club, the Palmer Preservation Society, and the Century Club in Waxahachie. She had been a deaconess in the First Christian Church of Palmer, a charter member of the Smith Cemetery Association, a volunteer with the Baylor Medical Center, Waxahachie Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the Ellis County Historical Commission.

Mary is survived by her son Edwin Farrar and his wife, Carol of Waxahachie; grandsons Louis Farrar of Waxahachie, Eric Farrar and his wife Jennifer of Jasper, Texas, and David Farrar of Dallas, Texas as well as great-grandson Logan Farrar of Waxahachie and great-granddaughter Jacqueline Farrar of Jasper, Texas. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Sue Farrar Evans of Palmer, Texas, Gracie Green of Ferris, Texas and Helen Ferguson of Aubrey, Texas as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randall Farrar, her parents, one sister, Leona Green and six brothers (Charles Green, Chesley Green, Howard Green, Irvin Green, Leland Green and Raymond Green).

The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Saturday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 PM Sunday, August 10, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie with Dr. Richard Reed officiating and Reverend Marvin Mott assisting. Pallbearers will be Louis Farrar, Eric Farrar, David Farrar, Billy Oates, Charlie Waller and Wallace Hughey. Interment will follow at Smith Cemetery near Rockett.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the First United Methodist Church (Waxahachie) New Organ Fund or to the Smith Cemetery Association.
