Mark Petty

June 6, 1956 — October 3, 2014

Mark Keith Petty, 58, of Huntsville, TX, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2014 in The Woodlands, TX after a courageous, hard fought battle with cancer. He was born on June 6, 1956 in Dallas, TX to Bill and Evelyn (Coker) Petty. Mark was a hardworking man that took pride in knowing he could (and did) out-work most men half his age. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, riding his Harley and spending time with those he loved. Mark had a way of making everyone around him feel special. He had a smile that lit up the room and his laughter was contagious. Making people laugh was a gift he was blessed with; he always found a way to make you feel better about any situation. Mark was a lover of people which is a rarity not seen often enough. If you knew Mark, you could not help but to love him. Mark had many friends that he thought highly of but his three best friends all had the privilege of calling him, "Dad". He was proud of his sons and he instilled into them to be giving, caring individuals. He taught them the importance of hard work and to have love and respect for others. Mark offered advice to his kids about life and was always willing to answer any question they had. Mark left this earth but he lives on through his sons and his grandchildren that he loved to spoil and spend time with. Mark fought to stay on this earth because the thought of leaving his family was too much to bear but in the end, the pain became unbearable and he was ready to go see Jesus and live on in heaven. Mark attended Word of Love Church in Trinity, TX where he loved to sing to his Lord and he always had a testimony to give God for all of his many blessings. Mark was married to Rhonda Petty of Huntsville, TX. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Evelyn Petty. Mark is survived by his spouse, Rhonda Petty of Huntsville, TX; his sons Buck Keith Petty of Waxahachie, TX; Dustin Keith Petty, and wife Vanessa of Canyon, Lake, TX; Marcos Petty, and wife Liz of Seagoville, TX. His seven grandchildren, McKenzie, Drake, Tony, Khloe, Aidan, Lexie and Sophia all of whom adored their "Papi". Mark leaves behind siblings; William Petty (Denell) of Loganville, GA, Kathy Starkes (Vann)of Austin, TX, Tim Petty of Victoria, TX, Robert Richards (Marilyn) of Trinity, TX, and Linda Blackwell (Richard) of Houston, TX. Holding a special place in Mark's heart were, Joshua, Jacob, Andrew, Heather, Hannah and Mario. He will be missed by a host of family and friends.
