MARILYN “KAY” GREGORY 10/14/1943 – 8/27/2020

Marilyn “Kay” Gregory, age 76, of Lancaster, TX passed away peacefully, at Methodist Dallas hospital, on August 27, 2020.

She was born October 14, 1943, in Denison, TX to the late Charlie Woods and Evelyn Wheeler Woods. She is preceded in death by her best friend/ex-husband, and father of her sons, H.R. “Rusty”

Gregory.

Kay (Mom/Memaw) is survived by her children David & Dr. Emmalee Beene Gregory of Magnolia, Arkansas and Keith & Tressa Gregory of Red Oak, Texas; Grandchildren April & Brandon Greenberg of Midlothian, Texas; Amber & Scott Plattenberger of Monroe, North Carolina; Russell & Amber Gregory of Magnolia, Arkansas; and Samantha Gregory of Magnolia, Arkansas; Great-grandchildren Brady & Ashlyn Greenberg of Midlothian, Texas; and Karlee Plattenberger of Monroe, North Carolina.

She also leaves behind sisters Charlyse Cason of Red Oak, Texas and Linda Sebastian of Belton, Texas; brother Herman Woods of Keller, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family; special lifelong friends; and her flea market family.

Kay worked as a hairdresser for many years in the Dallas area before opening her own beauty shop with Delores Todd in DeSoto, Texas; before they relocated to Red Oak, Texas. She also had a real estate license and assisted with running that business with Rusty. After several years, they decided to pursue their passion and travel across the southern states (occasionally taking the grandkids), enjoying the mountains, setting up at flea markets, and selling “junk.” She also enjoyed going to the casino boats. She was always willing to lend a hand and assist with any craft or special occasion project that she was coaxed into. She was a devoted General Hospital viewer for decades and had a new-found love of keeping up with NASCAR.

She always worried about those close to her yet did not want anyone to ever worry about her. She was a strong-willed, stubborn, but loving, and fiercely independent woman who did things her way, even in her passing. She may be gone but her memories will last forever. She was a very special lady and will be missed every day.
