Ms. Nooner passed away early Tuesday morning, June 6, 2016 at A Daughter's Care Assisted Living in Lancaster, Texas, under the loving supervision of Juah Davis and her wonderful staff, Yalonda, Tina, Wendy, Ferris, and Shakira. Margaret was born December 26, 1924 in Burlington, North Carolina, the daughter of Thomas and Nellie Bryan.
Margaret received her Registered Nursing degree from Duke University in Raleigh, North Carolina in the mid 1940's. She then worked as a surgical nurse for an Otolaryngologist at Herman Hospital in Houston, as she was especially passionate about the field given that she was legally deaf without the use of hearing aids. While at Herman she met the charming and intelligent, Raymond Nash McLean, who was there studying to become a doctor. They fell in love and were united in marriage in the early 1950's. They were married for over 20 years during which he was a doctor in Waxahachie and Margaret worked as a nurse in his office. He then preceded her in death on May 10, 1973. In 1977 she was remarried to Elmer Nooner, and was with him until his passing in July of 1993.
Margaret was well-known for her knack for interior design, talent as an artist and for her impeccable fashion sense. No matter the occasion, she was always dressed to the nines in elegant, creative clothes reflective of her classy but innovative style. Incredibly kind and generous, Margaret was truly beautiful inside and out. She was a humble prayer warrior, close to God and loved reading her bible. She enjoyed playing Mahjong and was a shrewd card player; she never hesitated to surprise you with a little sass and the wink of her eye, as she showed you her innocence might just have been a ruse to take all your money in cards. She loved to cook, garden and travel - all with her friends, children and grandchildren, whom she loved very much.
Margaret was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Junior Service League, Garden Club, Baylor Women's Auxiliary and many other organizations in Waxahachie.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Daughter June McLean Coleman and son-in-law Steve Coleman (Arlington, TX.) Son, Jeff McLean and daughter-in-law Cathy McLean (Arlington, TX) Granddaughters Holly McLean Jeter, Los Angeles, CA, Stephanie Jeter of Austin, TX and Kaylee Jeter Korpi and husband Joel Korpi of New York City; Granddaughters Kelley McLean, Washington D.C. and Jaclyn McLean of Arlington. Other surviving family members include honorary adopted daughters Margaret Smith and Mary Sue Britton of Waxahachie, nephews and nieces Jon and Sandie McLean of Dallas, Mary Mclean of Dallas, Jim McLean of Richardson, Rod Mclean of Waco, Joe and Gwen McLean of Birmingham Alabama, Carol Stroud of Amarillo and Vicki McLean of Amarillo along with many other grand nieces and nephews. She was very thankful for her loving caretakers prior to her move to the assisted living: Betty Marshall, Vanessa Rodriguez, Dee Dee, Quaila and Keda Marshall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Hearing Research Foundation (american-hearing.org)
