Margaret Belle Epton, age 93
October 16, 1911
February 11, 2005

Mrs. Epton was born October 16,1911, in Valliant, Oklahoma, the second child of Dora and Charles Pittman. She graduated from high school in Idabel and after one year at Southeastern Oklahoma State College, received a life certificate to teach school in Oklahoma and taught, alongside her father, at Silver Creek and Holly Creek, Oklahoma.
Returning to college, she met and married T. Hollis Epton in 1933. Soon after, she became secretary to head of the School of Religious Education at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She was active in Ft. Worth musical Groups, singing in choirs and playing the piano. In 1955, after raising a family and supporting Rev. Epton in his ministry for many years, she returned to the Seminary and received her Bachelor of Religious Education degree.
Along with her husband, Mrs. Epton worked in ministries in Baptist churches in Pilot Point, Iowa Park, Gainesville, Waxahachie, San Angelo, and Duncan, Oklahoma. The Eptons also lived in Enid, Oklahoma for a number of years where Rev. Epton was Chaplain of Bass Memorial Baptist Hospital and Mrs. Epton did extensive service as a hospital volunteer. In 1986, the Eptons returned to Waxahachie for their retirement.
Mrs. Epton was known as an excellent hostess. She taught Sunday School, played organ and piano, sewed extensively, and excelled in handcrafts. Her favorite hobby was growing African violets.
She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Nan & Edward Burleson of Waxahachie; and Jan & Carl Seale of McAllen, along with 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Irene Henderson Mason of Canadian, Texas; and Elizabeth Kirkendall of Oklahoma City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dora Bell Pittman, and 3 brothers, David Pittman, Edgar Pittman, and Charles Pittman, Jr.; 1 granddaughter Lori Johnson; and her husband of 70 years, T. Hollis Epton.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Monday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 10 AM Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at the First Baptist Church, Waxahachie. Pallbearers will be Greg Burleson, Tim Burleson, Ansen Seale, Erren Seale, Avrel Seale and Lee Johnson.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Thacker and especially the staff at Covenant Place and Baylor Hospital, for their kindness and care. Gifts of remembrance may be directed to the Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church, 315 N. Rogers, Waxahachie, TX. 75165 or the Memorial Fund, First Presbyterian Church, P. O.
