Marcus Stuart Dorsey, 53 of Waxahachie, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at his residence. He was born on July 16, 1961 in Waxahachie. Stu was a graduate of Waxahachie High School. He received his Bachelor of Music degree (magna cum laude) from the University of North Texas and continued post-graduate studies in music composition at Southern Methodist University, Indiana University, and the Cleveland Institute of Music. He was also a graduate of the U.S. Armed Forces School of Music. He served as a music minister or worship leader for the Adat Shalom (Congregation of Peace) in Dallas, First United Methodist Church in Red Oak, South End United Methodist Church in Nashville, TN, West End Baptist Church in Fayetteville, TN, and the 4th Infantry Division and 2nd Armored Division Memorial Protestant Chapel. Stu served in the Army as the bass trombonist and vocal soloist with the 4th Infantry Division and 2nd Armored Division Bands. Stu loved people and music. He played guitar and trombone and was a prolific composer and arranger and was generous with his musical abilities. He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma T. Dorsey and brother-in-law, Dennis McClure. He is survived by his father, Harold B. Dorsey of Waxahachie; his sister, Leigh Ann McClure of Keller; nieces, Kate McClure of Addison and Michelle (and husband, Floyd) Joseph of Keller; nephew, Michael McClure of New York, NY; great-nephew, Lincoln Joseph; uncles, Carl Dorsey of Hurst and Dr. Edward Thiele of Nashville, and nine cousins with whom he maintained close relationships. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 9:15 a.m. at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, April 24, 2015. A memorial service to celebrate Stu's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 24th at the Central Presbyterian Church, Waxahachie. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Dennis G. McClure Scholarship Fund benefiting his sister's students who will pursue a career in music.
