Mr. Stephens, of Waxahachie passed away Saturday afternoon at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. He was born November 05, 1936 in Noodle Dome, Texas to W.A. & Ellen Lucille "Weeks" Stephens. Bro. Lynn was instrumental in carrying out the Kingdom's work, here on earth. He surrendered to preach on August, 1952 at the age of 15. He pastored the following churches: Community Baptist Church in Corsicana, Texas, Meadowbrook Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas, Richland Hills Baptist Church in Muleshoe, Texas, Bryan Street Baptist Church in Lamesa, Texas, Immanuel Baptist Church in Camden, Arkansas, Keltys Baptist Church in Lufkin, Texas, Calvary Baptist Church in Crockett, Texas. He served for six and a half years as Assistant Director of Interstate and Foreign Mission for the Baptist Missionary Association of America; Two terms as President of the BMA of America, Two terms as President of the BMA of Texas, The Advisory Committee of the BMA of America, President of OTHERS, an organization to assist John Ladd, Missionary to Mexico, the Finance Committee of BMA of America. He attended Jacksonville Baptist College and Baylor Baptist University. At the time of his death, he served as Editor of the Baptist Progress, the state paper of the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father to his three daughters, and loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife: Elaine Stephens of Waxahachie, Texas; Children: Teresa & Kevin Cheatham of Texarkana, Texas, Beverly & Luke Dinsdale of Franklin, Tennessee, Carla and Rodney Tucker of Monahans, Texas, Eric & Melissa Hunt of Houston, Texas,
Erin & Thomas Young of Houston, Texas and Jo & Richard Crenshaw of Lufkin, Texas.
3 Sisters: Margaret Corder of Lubbock, Texas, Sherry Pannell of Lubbock, Texas and Nancy & Jerry Burnaman of Waxahachie, Texas; Grandchildren: Devin Payne, Lynsi & Drew Fletcher, Danae Payne, Lance Cheatham, Brady Tucker, Ashton & Addison Hunt, Morgan Graham and Claudia Young. 1 Great Granddaughter: Grace Anderson,Mother In Law & Father & Law: Hub and Etha Templin of Duncanville, Texas and a host of Nieces and Nephews, Friends and Family. He was preceeded in death by his parents, and a brother in law: Jack Pannell.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Monday, September 06, 2004 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, September 07, 2004 at the Heritage Baptist Church in Waxahachie with Rev. Jerry Burnaman officiating. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Schoenrock, Charles Teal, Jack Bloxom, Jack Savage, Devin Payne and Lance Cheatham. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Baptist Progress Trustees
