LINDLE EDWARD FREEMAN
1913 - 2008
Lindle E. Freeman, age 95, of Atlanta , Georgia and Waxahachie , Texas , passed away Tuesday morning, September 23 at Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie. Born in Gleason , Tennessee , he attended Bethel College in McKenzie , Tennessee and graduated from The Bowling Green College of Commerce, Bowling Green , Kentucky . After receiving his masters degree from Vanderbilt University, he taught business education in Atlanta city schools and night classes at Georgia State College for thirty years and Cobb County schools for an additional ten years.
After school system retirement, he worked as the golf starter at the Cherokee Golf Club for seven years and volunteered at the St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta . He moved to Waxahachie in 1998 to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Louis Brown. At his death, he resided with his many friends and caring staff at the Covenant Place assisted living center.
Lindle attended the First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie and was a proud member of the Wesley Sunday School Class where he enjoyed the valuable support and fellowship of his classmates.
A strong advocate of Waxahachie's designation as "The Crape Myrtle Capital of Texas", he was "Co-Grand Marshall" of the 2006 Crape Myrtle Festival parade and was awarded a citation from the Waxahachie City Parks Board for his donations of trees to beautify the city. He generously supported the YMCA, Salvation Army, Waxahachie Care, the Senior Citizens Center , Hope Clinic, and other local charities and volunteered for the local Meals on Wheels organization.
Preceded in death by Lora Freeman of Atlanta , his wife of 56 years,
he is survived by his three children and their families; Daughter, Linda Freeman Brown, and husband, Louis of Waxahachie, Texas; Sons, Dr. John Jackson Freeman Sr. and Pamela Queen of Boone North Carolina, Richard Barry Freeman, and wife, Nancy of Atlanta, Georgia; Grandchildren, Amy B. Plum, and husband, John of New Canaan, Connecticut, Louis N. Brown III of Dallas, Texas, Emily F. Edwards, and husband, James of Atlanta, Georgia, Richard B. Freeman Jr. of New York, New York, Katherine F. Perkins and husband, Dr. Michael of Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Amelia F. Thompson, and husband, Willard of Macon, Georgia, John J. Freeman Jr. of Boone, NC, Virginia Lynn Menk of Norfolk, Virginia, Shannon Freeman of Fairfax, Virginia; and great-grandchildren, Max Bradley, Lily Frances, and John Dukes Plum, Davis James and Jackson Barry Edwards, Andrew John and Charles Joseph Menk.
Reverend Jerry Galloway will officiate a memorial service at The First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 28. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the Wyatt Mansion at 619 North Rogers Street . Subsequent interment will be in Atlanta .
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Waxahachie Care or any of the above mentioned organizations.
The Wayne Boze Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
