Linda Nelson

June 25, 1944 — December 20, 2021

Waxahachie

On Monday, December 20, 2021, our mom, Linda Gaye Shelkofsky-Nelson, loving wife, mother of 3 devoted daughters, and one foster son, passed away at age 77 in Waxahachie, Texas from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Linda was born on June 25, 1944 in Crockett, Texas to parents Theo and Irene Graham.  She graduated from Crockett High School in 1962, where she met her high school sweetheart, Frank Shelkofsky. They married June 1, 1962 and moved to Waxahachie, Texas.  Together they raised their children until his death in 1991.

She spent the majority of her working career at the Texas Baptist Home for Children in various rolls.  She deeply cared for the many children that lived at the home throughout the years, often including them in her own family’s holiday celebrations and vacations.

Linda had many interests and hobbies.  She was an avid reader and loved to quilt and sew.  She attended all sporting events and activities of her grandchildren.  Her and Butch were big supporters of the high school volleyball team.  After her retirement, she spent many hours volunteering with WISD as a classroom helper, a DEAR Day reader and various other capacities.  She was an active member of Farley Street Baptist Church for many years.

In 1993, she married Clarence (Butch) Nelson.  She loved him dearly and together they had many fun adventures after their retirements.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Shelkofsky and her foster son, Dino Martin.

She is survived by her husband, Butch Nelson, her three loving daughters and their families, Rhonda Johnston and spouse Ricky; Cheryl Chambers and spouse Steve; Gay Lynn Johnson and spouse Greg; and daughter in law, Nora Martin-Brock.  Her grandchildren, Luke and Jake Johnston, Justin Chambers and spouse Jackie, Stephanie Chambers, Blaike Johnson and spouse Hope, Rex and Max Johnson, Brittany Martin Luna and Cody Martin.  Great-grandchildren Allison and Emerson Chambers and Asher Luna.  A sister Barbara Sisk and spouse Dick, their children and families.

We greatly appreciate the love and care given by the staff at Brookdale Clare Bridge Assisted Living.
