Linda Shinpaugh Featherston was born on October 9, 1938 to Cecil Sephus Shinpaugh and Lois Moffett Shinpaugh. She was the youngest of eight children and was raised in Waxahachie, Texas. Linda died at home, exactly were she wanted to be on August 13, 2023. She was 84 years old.
Linda lived in Waxahachie her entire life, attending Waxahachie public schools. She would fondly tell stories of school-aged exploits with her cousin walking back and forth from her home on Highland Ave to their great aunts home near Dairy Mart, then taking the tunnel under the streets to the Ice House on Jackson. She loved to tell stories of their fun and loved her town more than most. Until she took ill, Linda drove weekly across much of Waxahachie (only south of Walmart – of course) so that she could assess the changes and growth and give a report of such to those she encountered. She was always inquisitive, wanting to know the who, why and how of pretty much anything she saw. In high school, Linda was a member of the cheerleading squad where she enjoyed the fun and games on Friday nights. She was a lifelong football fan. In her retirement, she increased her interest in all things regarding plants and frequently propagated bushes and trees, cultivating may large mature trees from acorns she gathered at Getzendaner Park. Linda was an extremely skilled seamstress and frequently created clothing from just an idea in her head. She was meticulous in her work.
Linda began her working career at Bell Telephone in downtown Dallas. She later worked for Lone Star Gas in Waxahachie. She married Bobby Featherston Sr. in 1959 and began her job as a Mom, they made their home in Waxahachie, where they had two children, Paige Featherston Gordon and Bobby Featherston Jr. When both her children were of school age, Linda began working for Waxahachie ISD where she served as the library aide at Marvin Elementary School. She served the kids and teachers at Marvin for many years making many friends. In the mid 1970’s she began working as a clothing store manager and then found her place at National Freight as a payroll clerk. She retired from National Freight in 1996.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Cecil Sephus and Lois Shinpaugh along with all of her siblings, Cecil Shinpaugh Jr, Dorothy Jacobs, Grady Shinpaugh, Hugh Charles Shinpaugh, James Shinpaugh, Leland Shinpaugh and Shirley Allred.
Linda is survived by her children, Paige Featherston Gordon of Waxahachie and Bobby & Cindy Featherston of Waxahachie. She loved and enjoyed her grandchildren, Tyler and Catherine Featherston of Waxahachie, Trey and Sydney Featherston of Waxahachie, Ellen Gordon and Harrison Rollins of Seattle WA, Travis and Skylar Featherston of Waxahachie, and David and Claire Gordon of Coppell, TX. Linda was blessed with four precious Great Grands that gave her immeasurable joy, along with dozens of nieces and nephews.
