Leonard Sullivan

June 10, 1915 — October 27, 2013

Leonard R. Sullivan, longtime resident of Waxahachie, born June 10, 1915 in Goldthwaite, TX, passed away Sunday, October 27. He was raised in Texas and Minnesota and was a graduate of Long Prairie High School and the University of Minnesota. He and his family returned to TX in 1956 and settled in Waxahachie. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ione, and their children: Judy Coonley, and husband, Kiril, Mike, and wife, Alene, Pat, and wife, Janie, and Steve, and wife, Elizabeth; grandchildren: Kristin Walters (Scott), Tracy Terry (Seth), Susan Mello (Carl), Patrick Sullivan (Allison), Christopher Sullivan (Kelly); step-grandchildren: Deborah Hartsfield, Kylee Campbell, Clay Mackey (Shannon), Jayton Bryant, and Cindy Banks (Clint); great-grandchildren: Alexandra Reed, Lee and John Ryder, Sadie and Josie Mello, William and Theodore Walters, Emmeline, Campbell and Beck Sullivan, Chloe and Avery Sullivan; step-great-grandchildren: Will and Brooks Terry, Stone Mackey, Abby and Ty Campbell and Cloie and Carlie Banks. He is also survived by his brothers: Winston Sullivan, James Davis, Bobby Davis, Donald Davis, and his sister: Irma Jean Webb, as well as many nieces and nephews. Leonard was a life-long Rotarian and he took great pride in his service and dedication to the Club. He was also a Mason, and in June, 2010, he received the 70th Year Masonic Service Award. He was an active and involved member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Waxahachie and was one of the first visionaries for Bethlehem Revisited. He was involved in many civic activities in the community and in 2006 he was named Citizen of the Year by the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce. He loved Waxahachie. We will all miss his inquisitive mind and the love, joy and pride he held for all of his family. A Memorial Service will be held at the Central Presbyterian Church on Friday, November 1, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Rotary Club of Waxahachie or to the Central Presbyterian Church of Waxahachie.
