Lee Roy Ward arrived on earth September 1, 1918 in Purdon, TX., Navarro County. He departed to heaven on March 17, 2014. He served three key roles - a servant of God, a committed family man and a service man in the Army Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Julia Ward, his sisters, Fay Hutson and Ida Nisperos, and his wife, Thelma Ward, who served with him for 33 years in Liberia and Nigeria, West Africa. Rev. Ward served as a radio operator with the Army Air Force in WWII in the North Africa and Mediterranean theaters. He received the certificate of valor for his service in the Mediterranean operations from the Army Air Force. Other decorations and citations received included a Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal GO, EAME service ribbons, one Silver Star and two Bronze Service Stars. He completed his service prior to honorable discharge, teaching at the radio operator school in Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God College, (now Southwestern Assemblies of God University), in Waxahachie, TX. He served there as Assistant Dean of Men until he began his missionary service. With his broad range of gifts, Rev. Ward served as a bush pilot, builder, seminary and grade school planter and a boarding school house-parent. Upon retirement to the U.S.A., Rev. Ward faithfully served as a custodian and Senior Adult Minister at University Assembly of God church in Waxahachie, TX. until the age of 80. His volunteer support continued on until this past year when health restrictions prevented his service. He held credentials for 62 years with Assembly of God. He will lovingly be remembered for his exceptional story-telling, memory for names and dates, his warm hand shake, his always-at-the-ready to help, a green thumb that provided produce and flowers to share, and the open joy of investing in children's lives - especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
