Leatrice Peterson Berry, 90 of Avalon, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 in Ennis surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born to the late Joe and Mildred Peterson on July 12, 1924 in Essex, Iowa. Leatrice was raised on a farm east of Essex with two older brothers, Wayne and Wendell Peterson. After grade school she attended Shenandoah High School in Shenandoah, Iowa. After graduation she moved to Burbank, California to live with her aunt and uncle to seek employment and began working for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. During that time she met Aubrey Berry and they later married on June 25, 1947 in Essex, Iowa and they were married for 60 years. After their marriage they moved to Texas and settled in Lone Cedar where they made their home. They farmed together and on September 3, 1955 they had a daughter which they named Cheryl. Leatrice began working for Avalon Schools where she worked for 25 years. During that time she also worked at Avalon Co-op Gin. Leatrice was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Italy, Texas. She was a member of the Texas Association of Secretaries and Administrators and was also a member of the Texas Association of School Business Officials. Leatrice leaves behind so many who loved her and will continually miss her. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Berry-Turner and her husband, Phil of Waxahachie; her nieces, Patricia Peterson Vogel of Coin, Iowa, Debbie Peterson Koehler of Shenandoah, Iowa; her nephews, David Peterson of Essex, Iowa, Gary Peterson of Clarinda, Iowa, Kendall Peterson of Coin, Iowa and Steven Peterson of St. Joe, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Aubrey Berry; her father and mother, Joseph and Mildred Peterson,; also by her brothers, Wayne Peterson and Wendell Peterson. Service to celebrate her life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Bro. Grady Cashion officiating. Interment will follow at Hughes Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
