Laura Ellen McMahan, 93 of Waxahachie, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009 in a Lewisville hospital. She was born to the late N. J. and Virginia Henry Dunaway on June 20, 1915 in Belcherville, Texas.
In 1937 Laura married Harvey B. McMahan and they enjoyed 43 loving years together. They moved to Waxahachie in 1959 and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 48 years where she was very active with the United Methodist Women, the Joy Singers and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She enjoyed serving communion at the nursing homes and volunteered at Renfro Healthcare and Pleasant Manor. She also enjoyed reading, was an avid baseball fan, and loved spending time with her grandchildren. In 2007 Laura moved to Lewisville to live with her son. She leaves behind so many close friends and family who loved her and will miss her.
She is survived by her sons, Harvey B. McMahan, III of Lewisville, Charles McMahan and his wife, Connie of Houston; her daughter, Sue Hayes and her husband, Bob of Garland; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harvey B. McMahan; her brother, Ray Dunaway; her sister, Lucille Huffman; and her daughter in law, Suzy McMahan.
Services to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Galloway officiating. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church and will last until service time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 505 West Marvin, Waxahachie, Texas 75165, or to a charity of one's choice.
