Larry W. Bright, 65, of Waxahachie, Texas passed away Friday, November 02, 2012 in Waxahachie. Larry was born on July 01, 1947 in Alexandria, Virginia to Harvey and Julia Starkey Bright. Larry joined the U.S. Army on March 15, 1968 and was with the U.S. Army Security Agency until his discharge on December 20,1971. He attended Navarro Junior College Police Academy and graduated on February 25, 1972. He joined the Waxahachie Police Department January 3, 1972 as a patrolman; was wounded in the line of Duty in August 1974 and received a purple heart. He advanced to rank of Lieutenant and left the Police Department in July 1984 when transferred to Waxahachie Fire Department as the Fire Marshall. Larry retired on December 31, 2004 after 33 years of service to the City Of Waxahachie. He received numerous certifications and honors throughout his career. Larry loved to spend time with his family. He was a devoted husband, loving Father, and a wonderful pawpaw, and he loved to fish. He was always there to lend a hand, and he touched the lives of all that knew him. He will be dearly missed. Larry is survived by his loving and devoted wife Karen, son Travis Bright and wife Shannon, Daughter Vanessa Bright Howard and husband Heith, sons Kevin Gwin and Joel Gwin all of Waxahachie. One grandson Taylor Bright of Waxahachie, granddaughters Elisabeth Howard of Waxahachie, Heather Gwin of Waxahachie, and Brittany Gwin, Savannah Gwin and Cheyenne Gwin of Farmers Branch. One brother Richard Bright and wife Bonnie of Alexandria, Virginia, One nephew and one niece both of Alexandria, Virginia, Close friend and longtime fishing partner Terry O'Daniel of Waxahachie, and close friend Ralph Yates of Waxahachie. Preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Julia Bright of Alexandria, Virginia and one nephew, Jeffery Bright also of Alexandria, Virginia. Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 07, 2012 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Rev. David Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Hudgins, Randall Potter, Dennis Crecelius, Jeff Alexander, Gary Myers, John Chenault, and Terry Skipper. Honorary Pallbearers will be Allen Russell, Mike Slay, Royce Gothard, Nathan Bickerstaff, Daniel Burgess, Dennis Brearly, Charles Sullins, Brett Colston, Tommy Hale, Don Blanton, and Kenneth Langford. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 06, 2012 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
