Kay Smith

Kay Lynn Burris Smith passed away on July 9, 2019 at the age of 72. She was born on October 15, 1946 in Fort Worth, Texas to Mary Margaret (Dobbs) and David Orville Burris.

She was a mother, sister, and friend to everyone she met. She loved life and was always on the go. Kay was a true fighter and beat Cancer three times. She loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, college football, and all basketball games. She loved to spend time with her family and her many friends. She enjoyed playing games of all sorts and traveling, particularly to visit her aunts and cousins in Montana. Kay was a member of Marshall Drive Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Grand Prairie.

Kay began her career as a Social Worker and then became a history teacher for the Grand Prairie Independent School District. She taught for more than 25 years, primarily at Truman Middle School.

Kay is survived by her daughter, Paige Lindley Taylor and son-in-law Bryan Taylor of Rowlett, Texas; her siblings David Brigman of Maypearl, Texas; Fred Brigman and his wife Ann, of Maypearl, Texas; and Sonya Ayers and her husband Rickey, of Waxahachie, Texas.  Kay was blessed with many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved so much.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Dustin Dobbs Smith; her aunt, Barbara Brigman; and her uncle, E.L. Brigman.

Friends and family are encouraged to gather for a time of visitation Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 1 p.m. Services celebrating Kay’s life will be held at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Kay will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at the Auburn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the SPCA of Texas, the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
