Karen D. Schoonover, age 71, of Red Oak, Tx. passed away on September 2, 2021 in Dallas.
She was born in Eldorado, Il., on May 26, 1950. She was married to Steven (Scooby) Schoonover on May
28,1966 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She loved fishing and family time and serving others.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents-Lorine and Betty Allen, brother David Allen and sister Gail
Spencer.
Karen is survived by her husband Steve (Scooby) Schoonover ,her daughter Rhonda (Tony) Gibson
two grandchildren Gary Gibson and Matt Gibson. She is also survived by a sister Kim ( David) Widmer,
brother Roger (Gene) Allen, a nephew Joey Allen and 10 nieces, nephews and cousins.
Scooby told Karen on their first date that he was going to marry her. She said “no chance”. Scooby
proposed to Karen on their second date and the next 55 years is sweet history. Karens big brother
Rodger would use her as his personal gym equipment, lifting her up, over his head and bench
pressing the couch with her sitting on it.
Karen loved to go fishing with her grandad at Lake Texoma. She loved to read her Bible and enjoyed serving in Victory Baptist Church, with the food pantry and having Bible study with the ladies. Karen
was so proud to have earned her commercial drivers license, with which her and Scooby drove as a team truck driver for Dart transportation until they retired in 2009. Karen and Scooby received
multiple driving awards of achievement, including contractor of the year in 2002. She received an 8
Year safety award.
Karen made it a priority to support and encourage her two grandsons in all of their activities and events.
She even made sure Gary and Matt had their own mini-recliner chairs at the ages of 3 and 4. Karen
would even threaten Gary and Matt’s bad behavior by threatening to put them in the dryer if they
did not act better. She also enjoyed cooking for everyone and also using family members to taste
test her diabetic recipes. Karen had a passion hosting family and friends get togethers for all the
holidays and birthdays.
