Juanita was born to Ivy Lynn (Elliott) and C.C. Dunn on September 1, 1929, in the community of Nash where she was raised. She graduated from Waxahachie High School and thereafter worked as a bookkeeper before marrying Billy Joe Stoffregen on November 3, 1950. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waxahachie where she taught Children’s Sunday School and also worked in Vacation Bible School for many years. Later in life she decided that she wanted to be a teacher. She began college and obtained her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and English from TWU in Denton, Texas. She also obtained a Master of Liberal Arts degree from SMU in Dallas, Texas, which concentrated on Southeast Asian and South American studies. Juanita taught in the WISD for many years, first teaching fourth grade at Northside Elementary and later teaching ICT in the Vocational Department of Waxahachie High School. She was an avid reader of nonfiction with a book always in her hands. Juanita loved to be at home, but she would leave it to travel, her other passion.
Juanita passed on September 23, 2020, of natural causes. To the doctors, nurses, aides, and therapists who took loving care of her through these past few years, we are forever grateful.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 65 years. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Michael Harwell; brother-in-law, Glen Stoffregen; and numerous cousins. A private graveside service officiated by Dr. Leroy Fenton was held.
