After a lengthy battle with dementia, Joyce Phillips Stewart, 76, of Waxahachie, passed away peacefully at her home on January 30, 2023, surrounded by her 3 children. She was born May 16, 1946 in Italy, TX, to Marion F. and Rachel O. (Spann) Phillips. She graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1964. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her family. She was sassy, sweet, spunky, head strong and stubborn, but everyone who knew her, loved her. She never met a stranger and would help anyone in need.
Her hobbies included: gardening (picking weeds), finding garage sales (buying things she did not need), eating at Mexican restaurants or Oma’s Jiffy Burger, and attending any events her family was involved in.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Billy Bob Stewart, her parents, her siblings Evelyn Hocutt, Margaret Jenkins, Marion F. Phillips, Jr., Nina Moore, Jessie Phillips and her twin brother Royce Phillips.
She is survived by her children: Jack Stewart (Kristina), Diane Swanson and Debra Haught; grandchildren Kim Gerich (Shaun), Forrest Swanson (Liz Stevens), Retired Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew Haught (Ashley), Savannah Stewart and Austin Stewart; great grandchildren Maxwell Haught, Damon Haught, Charles Haught, and Willow Swanson; sister Evie Allen (Roland), sister-in-law Kathy Phillips, along with numerous nieces, nephews and longtime friends.
Services will be officiated by Chaplain Jerry Bloomfield and Pastor Jerod Casey.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the staff of Bristol Hospice Pathways for the loving care they provided.
