Joseph Hobbs

April 24, 1921 — November 7, 2011

Joseph Thomas Hobbs (J T) of Forreston, Texas was taken peacefully by his Lord, and Saviour Jesus Christ on November 7, 2011 in Waxahachie. He was born on April 24, 1921 in Ellis County, Texas. J T attended school in Forreston, Texas where he met the one and only love of his life, Mary Dean Trees and they married on January 18, 1942. He and Mary spent the next 67 years together, happily married and they cherished their time together. Their devotion and love for one another was truly a gift from God that only a select few have the privilege to share. Shortly after he married, J T joined the United States Navy during WWII where he served mostly in the Pacific Theater. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He provided for his family in every possible way. In September of 1956 he was transferred to New Orleans, LA. In 1976 he retired to Forreston, Texas where he spent the next 33 years with his beloved wife. Throughout his working life, sometimes working 3 jobs at a time, JT still managed to teach his sons to fish and hunt. He loved spending time with his family, especially taking his sons dove hunting and bass fishing, which they did most weekends. Very few have the view and philosophy that J T held concerning his job; he believed and often told his sons that "No man had to go to work." He believed that you get to go to work. He often said that a father's job was to climb the success ladder as high as possible then reach down and put your children on your shoulders so they could reach higher. J T also often stated that the only thing a man can control is his word. When J T gave his word, it was as good as gold. This MAN will be greatly missed by his family and friends. J T was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Dean Hobbs; his mother and father, Bonnie and Joe Hobbs; his sisters, Ann Allen, Eula Daniels; and by his brothers, Jim Hobbs and Leonard Hobbs. He is survived by his sons, Joe and wife, Sharon Hobbs of Dawson, Texas, Tom and Katie Hobbs Justin, Texas; six grandchildren, Joey and wife, Erin Hobbs of Highland Village, Texas, Dean and wife, Laura Hobbs of San Antonio, Texas, Blake and wife, Michelle Hobbs of Weatherford, Texas, Wes Hobbs of Houston, Texas, Deann and husband, Dr. John Davidhizar of Tyler, Texas, Rev. Will Hobbs of Plano, Texas; his sister, Oretha Justice of Waxahachie, Texas; and his brother, Wes Hobbs of Seal Beach, CA; and numerous great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Forreston Cemetery with Rev. Will Hobbs officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie. www.waynebozefuneralhome.com
