Joseph Douglas Fincher, 87, of Blooming Grove, Texas passed away on July 31, 2021. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas on September 8, 1933 to Joseph & Gladys Fincher. Joe graduated from North Texas State University in 1963 and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1963 – 1965. Joe was in the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Korean Service Medal.
On August 11, 1957 Joe married the love of his life, Shirley Frances Higginbotham at Water Street Baptist Church in Waxahachie, Texas. The couple had three children, Joe Dwain, Tina and Kristi. They had been married almost 62 years at her passing in April 2019.
Joe’s lifetime career was spent ministering in Christian based Children’s Homes in Texas and Oklahoma. He was a Deacon at Central Baptist Church in Blooming Grove, Texas, and enjoyed teaching a Sunday School class with many cherished friendships.
He always puts others before himself and shared the joy of Christ with everyone around him. Even in his final days, his prayers were full of thankfulness and praise.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley and his mother and father.
He is survived by his brothers, Edwin (Bettie) Fincher and James (Debbie) Fincher; his children Joe Dwain (Berna) Fincher; Tina (Stacey) Chambers; Kristi (Gary) Dollar; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and his faithful dog, Daisy.
