Joseph Felty

Captain Joseph William Rowland Felty USN (Retired) Joe was born on November 3, 1942 in Canton Texas to LT and Margaret (Rowland) Felty. Joe, his brother Larry Felty and sister Margaret Felty lived in Waxahachie where Joe grew up playing football, eventually achieving an All State center accolade while attending Waxahachie High School. Joe graduated from Waxahachie High school in 1961 and attended The New Mexico Military Institute for one year. Joe then received his appointment to attend the United States Naval Academy where he again played football. Joe graduated from USNA in 1966 and was appointed as an Ensign in the United States Navy. While serving his country Joe earned his Master's degree in Communications management. Joe served in the United States Navy for 26 years, retiring as a Captain in April of 1992. When asked what he did in the Navy he would say "I drove ships". The highlight of his career was commanding the U.S. Haleakala. Joe married his best friend, Jane Ann Bruns in 1968. Joe (Papa) has two daughters Julie Anne Felty Petterson and Jacquelyn Leslie Felty, A son-in-law Isaac Petterson. Grandchildren Andrew Kindred, Joseph Vela, Alexus Kindred, John (JJ) Vela and Jeffrey Vela, and one great grandson Alijah (A-Ray) Jones. Joe also leaves behind his brother Larry Felty, sister in law Glinda Felty and baby sister Margaret Felty an Aunt, Uncle, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe is preceded in death by his father LT Felty and mother Margaret (Rowland) Felty along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousin. Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, February 12, 2015 6pm-8pm at Wayne Boze funeral home located at 1826 W. Highway 287 Business in Waxahachie TX. Church Services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 2pm at Central Presbyterian Church located at 402 N. College Street in Waxahachie TX. Interment will follow with full military honors at Waxahachie City Cemetery.
