Joseph “Joe” Wayne Brubaker died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, after a short, but aggressive battle with Leukemia.
Joe was born to Billie and Joe Brubaker in Duncan, Okla. on June 23, 1959. He attended and graduated from Duncan High School in 1977. Upon high school graduation, Joe attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in December of 1993.
While attending OU, Joe met his ex-wife Paula Watkins and the two of them married in September of 1985. They had three children together: Cassandra in 1987, Marissa in 1988, and Josh in 1992.
Joe was a veteran of the United States Army and was an active-duty member from 1994 – 2001. While serving active duty, Joe completed a yearlong deployment in Hungary and earned the following decorations: Army achievement medal, Army commendation medal, Army superior unit award, Army good conduct medal, National Defense service medal, Armed Forces service medal, Noncommissioned Officer’s professional development ribbon, NATO medal, Army service ribbon, Overseas service ribbon and Sharpshooter Badge M-16 Rifle.
Joe is survived by his three children; three grandchildren; sister, Janet Spivey, and her three children: Christy, Sam, and Billie. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; ex-wife, Paula, and brother-in-law, Bill Spivey.
His memorial service will be held at the Cowboy Church of Ellis County in Waxahachie, TX on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024, at 11 a.m.
