Jose Ortiz Sr.

Jose (“Joe”) Angel Ortiz Sr. , age 79, of Waxahachie, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021, at his daughter’s home, after a long battle with cancer.  Joe was born on January 27, 1942, in Edroy, Texas.  He was the son of Epimenio Ortiz, Sr. and Maria Cruz (Jimenez) Ortiz.

Joe grew up in Sinton, Texas and married his wife, Carmen Garcia Ortiz, on December 11, 1962 in Lovington, New Mexico. In 1966, Joe and Carmen moved to Waxahachie, Texas.  He spent the majority of his life as a laborer by trade. His favorite sport was football and was a loyal fan of the San Francisco 49ers. Also, he was Elvis Presley’s biggest fan. He embraced all life offered and took great pride in his family and his friends. He enjoyed the love and respect of those that knew him well and enriched those lives that encountered him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Epimenio and Maria Cruz (Jimenez) Ortiz; siblings, Maria Padilla and Epimenio Ortiz, Jr.; and nephew, Jose Rosario (“Chayo”) Padilla.

Joe is survived by his wife, Carmen Garcia Ortiz; four daughters and their spouses, Lydia, and Mayra Ortiz; Elvira and Juan Barroso, Maria and Amado Luis, and Carmen and Gerald Coon; and three sons and their spouses, Jose “Joe” Angel Jr. and Marybel Ortiz, Luis Ortiz, and Michael Ortiz; two brothers, Victor Ortiz, and Alfredo Ortiz and two sisters, Guadalupe Cuellar and Juanita Hernandez; and eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for Jose “Joe” Angel Ortiz Sr. at Wayne Boze Funeral Home located at 1826 US-287 BUS, Waxahachie, Texas 75165 on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 10:00 am.
