Johnny Mack Barrett, 64 of Ennis , Texas passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 in Ennis. He was born September 17, 1948 in Burbank, California to Jack & Betty Barrett. Johnny was a hard-working man who owned and operated a successful cattle hauling company, Barrett Trucking. He was raised in Houston where he graduated from Sterling High School in 1967. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and then graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. While attending SHSU, he was an outstanding rodeo cowboy winning several championship buckles and saddles in bareback riding, Steer Wrestling and All Around competitions. Johnny held several jobs from health inspector for Tarrant County to working for Davis Rodeo Company, Smith Sales & Loftis Livestock to entrepreneur but was always a true trucker at heart. He enjoyed spending hours on the road hauling cattle from Texas to New Mexico, Oklahoma and Kansas. He loved to watch old westerns and enjoyed spending time at his ranch outside of Ennis. He can best be described by his friends and family as a cheerful, selfless, humble, honest man. He will be dearly missed by his family and everyone who knew him and loved him. He is survived by his mother Betty Ann Nichols Barrett formerly of Houston, Texas but now residing in Waxahachie, Texas; his God-Daughter Chelsa Floyd, numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins and a host of friends. Johnny was preceded in death by his father Jack Barrett and his sister, Sue Ginn. A memorial service to celebrate his life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie. Visitation is scheduled to begin prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. Following the service, friends may gather at Loftis Livestock and Sale pens located at 3441 South Hwy 287, Waxahachie to continue visiting and honoring the memory of Johnny. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
