John Webb, Sr.

John Albert Webb, Sr., age 74, of Ovilla, passed away early Tuesday evening, March 20, 2018 at his home in Ovilla. He was born April 19, 1943 in Palestine, Texas to Leonard and Bernice (Hester) Webb.

John graduated from San Angelo Central High School in San Angelo, Texas in 1961 and Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas in 1966. He married Shirley Ann Tounget of Ballinger, Texas on July 30, 1966 and served in the Texas National Guard from 1964 to 1971. He started working in the insurance industry first with Travelers Insurance and then working his way up the ranks at State Farm. In 1984 John relocated his family to the Red Oak area and started his business as a roofing contractor. He became a member of Ovilla Road Baptist Church and served on the Glenn Heights city council for two years.

John was a quiet, hard-working and well-respected businessman who was cordial to his friends and loving to his family. He knew how to have a good time and knew when best to stick to his stubborn streak. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a passion for raising bird dogs. He enjoyed taking long road trips and spending time at the lake. He was a proud sixth generation Texan.

John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Webb; son John Webb Jr. of Ovilla; daughter Shelly Gribble, her husband Mike Gribble and their three daughters Delayna, Halley, and Hannah of Kilgore, Texas; and son Jay Webb of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and step father Dr. Robert G. Cleere.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, Waxahachie.

Services to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Ovilla Road Baptist Church, Ovilla, with Rev. Nick Harris and Rev. Drew Erickson officiating. Interment will follow at the Shiloh Cumberland Cemetery, Ovilla.
