John Russell "JR" Walker, Sr., 47 of Red Oak, went home on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, to spend Christmas Day with his Savior, Jesus Christ and late son Joshua. He was born to the late George Jefferson and Rosie Walker on June 9, 1961, in Dallas
John's first love was the Lord Jesus Christ. His family was his life. He gave of himself and was always available for anyone who needed assistance and a shoulder to lean on. He always had a hug for everyone and always told people that he loved them. He was a very compassionate, caring, loving, giving (and so much more) husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He always said that "No one is a stranger here; they are just friends that I have not met." He had a love for the open road and his career as an over the road driver gave him that opportunity to meet new individuals and spread God's message. He always had three specific questions with only one correct response that he always asked his children: "Who do you long to? We long to you. Who does dad long to? You long to us. And when do we love each other? ALWAYS!
He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Walker; his sons, John "Junior" Walker, Jr., Jacob "Poo-Roo" Walker; his daughters, Jacquelyn "P. Dumplin" Walker, Brenda "Lollipop" Holmes-Walker, Catherine "Kitten" Holmes-Walker, all of Red Oak; his brothers, Daniel Lopez of Grand Prairie, Henry Lopez of Irving; his father & mother-in-law, Mark & Anna Jo Durbin of Red Oak & numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins & friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua "Bubba" Walker; his parents; & his brothers, Charlie Walker, Daddy Mack Walker, and Jeffery Blake Walker.
Visitation for family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m., and a rosary prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Red Oak Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father Michael Guadagnoli serving as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Red Oak Cemetery.
