Mr. Marchbanks, lifetime Waxahachie resident, passed away early Tuesday morning at Pleasant Manor Health and Rehab Center, Waxahachie. He was born in Waxahachie to Alfonso Calvin and Edna (Roebuck) Marchbanks. After graduating from Waxahachie High School in 1940, he attended Baylor University for two years. He then enlisted in the Army Air Force on October 27, 1942, serving in the European Theatre WWII, receiving four bronze stars. Mr. Marchbanks received an honorable discharge October 11, 1945. He married Mary Nell Thompson in 1949 in Waxahachie. Mr. Marchbanks was a self employed electrician. He enjoyed sports and dominoes. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #90, the Men's Downtown Bible Class and the First Baptist Church of Waxahachie.
Mr. Marchbanks is survived by: sons, John Roy Marchbanks, Jr. and wife Pam of Waxahachie, Charles Miller and wife Jerry of Irving; brother, James Marchbanks and wife Maxine of Ft. Worth; sisters, Josephine Pinkston and husband Jack of Waxahachie and Nancy Berry of Ft. Worth; grandchildren, Matt Marchbanks and wife Lori of Allen, Melanie Marchbanks of Dallas, Annece Glennon and husband Sean of Grapevine and Scott Miller of Irving; one great grandson, Seth Glennon of Grapevine; brother-in-law, Jake Tompkins and his wife Louise.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Nell Thompson in 1989; brother, Fonnie Marchbanks; sisters, Margaret Rogers, Edith Minnick, Frances Hodges, Elizabeth Tompkins, Lucille Schultz, Katherine Bozek and Bertha Mae Kirkpatrick.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Thursday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 10 AM Friday, January 28, 2005 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Leroy Fenton officiating.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Marchbanks, Phillip Marchbanks, Jerry Pinkston, Chuck Schultz, Bill David Bozek, Don Hodges, Mike Rainwater and Billy Moore. Interment will follow in the Waxahachie City Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
