John Jones

October 4, 1955 — December 13, 2017

John Francis Jones was born on October 4, 1955 in Waco, Texas to Phil and Ann Jones. He went peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, in his home with his loving wife Tammye by his side.

John was the oldest of 4 children: 2 brothers Clay & Keith, and his sister Pat. They grew up in Grand Prairie and Irving, and he enlisted in the military in 1972. After serving in the United States Army, he moved to Colorado, where he met and married his first wife, Barbara. There, he received his Associates Degree from Front Range Community College. He and Barbara owned a successful trucking company, and were married for over twenty years until she passed away from her battle with cancer.

Upon moving back to Texas to be closer to his family, John's spiritual life strengthened through relationships and involvement at Farley Street Baptist Church. John was saved on September 20, 2009. It was during that time that he met Tammye, and they were married on August 5, 2011. Not only did he gain a wife, but he also gained two sons, a daughter, and his precious grandsons, who lovingly referred to him as "Papa John". John and Tammye enjoyed spending time with their family, fishing, and worshipping with their church family. John was very proud to call Farley Street his home. The strong bonds formed in the 'Grace in Truth' class was one of the biggest blessings in their life.

John was diagnosed with cancer in October 2015, and was given an estimate of 6 months to a year to live. God had other plans, and John showed great faith as he battled with this disease. He continually shared God's grace and mercy throughout the next two years. In words left for all by John himself, he says, "Let God change you as He did me. Trust Him as I do. Have your faith in Him, as He is the Truth."

John is preceded in death by his dad, Phil, and his first wife, Barbara.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammye; son Seth Wright and wife Leia of Joshua; daughter Whitney Laza and husband Jimmy of Waxahachie; son Taylor Wright of New York; grandsons Matthew, Kaden, Brody, Jace, Weston, and Jett; his loving mom, Ann Jones of Waxahachie; brother Clay Jones and wife Benita of Waxahachie; brother Keith Jones and wife Kathy of Roanoke; sister Pat Jones of Kaufman; Tammye's parents, Joe and Dorothy Swift; grandparents Charlie Taylor and Helen Trull, all of Waxahachie; brother-in-law Heath Taylor and wife Chrissie of Waxahachie; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial to celebrate John's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Farley Street Baptist Church in Waxahachie. Private interment will be held at a later date at Bosqueville Cemetery in Waco, Texas.

John's wishes were that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made for children in need to Farley Street Baptist Church.
