John Hensley

John Robert Hensley, 79 of Waxahachie, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 in Waxahachie. He was born on April 15, 1937 in Peoria, Texas to the late Harold Wade and Juanita Brewer Hensley.

John always enjoyed sports. When he wasn't playing sports, he was watching sports. He enjoyed playing football and baseball throughout his childhood and in his later years playing softball and bowling. Later in life, he and Lea purchased a camper and toured the United States, which they enjoyed very much.

John always had a keen sense of humor and loved his family and spending time with them. He was selfless, always putting others first. He approached anything he was called to do with an admirable and humble determination.

As the years gained on him he was stricken with Alzheimer's which finally took his life.
Even with this terrible disease, there was still something in him that remained to the very end that let you know he was there with you.

John will be missed by everyone who knew him and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lea Hensley of Corsicana, now residing in Midlothian; his sons, Mark Hensley and his wife, Kim of Midlothian, Chris Hensley and his wife, Robbyn of Waxahachie and Scott Hensley of Austin; his brothers, Jim Hensley and Ray Tom Hensley of Waxahachie; he is also survived by his grandchildren, Garrett Hensley, Rayce Hensley, Will Hensley, Ivy Hensley and Zoey Hensley; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Harold Wade and Juanita Hensley.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Brother Jack Ables officiating. Interment will follow at the Sardis Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 20107 at Wayne Boze.
