Joe Wilson

Joe Charles Wilson, age 90 of Maypearl, Texas passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 in Waxahachie. Joe was born October 19, 1926 in Maypearl, Texas to the late Elwood and Jewell Wilson.

Joe attended Maypearl schools. He graduated, and married his late wife Dorothy Nell Byers in 1944. Joe enlisted in the Merchant Marines in December 1944 during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Joe returned home and began working for Armour and Co. for approximately 9 years in the Rio Grande Valley. In 1953 Joe returned home to begin farming and ranching. During this time he served on the board of directors and worked for the USDA and ASCS offices measuring land in Ellis County. Joe served on the Ellis County Appraisal District, he also served on the Maypearl School Board for many years. Joe farmed and ranched until he retired in 2000. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Maypearl, Texas. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all that knew him and loved him.

Joe is survived by his son Kerry Lynn Wilson of Crescent City, CA , his daughter Cherry Gwynn Powell and husband Michael of Dumas, Texas, his brother Gary Wilson and wife Annette of Maypearl, his sister Mary Sue Eubank and husband Eldridge of Maypearl, 6 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and other friends and family.

Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Mott and Rev. Sarah Miller officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 19 from 6-8 PM at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Grandview, Texas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Maypearl in the name of Joe C. Wilson.
