Joe W. Smith, 83 of Waxahachie, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008. He was born to the late Clyde & Vina Smith on December 12, 1924 in Milford.

Joe graduated from Midlothian High School in 1942 and entered the United States Army Air Corps on June 18, 1943. He trained in Nashville, TN, Homestead, FL and Fairfield Air Force Base in California. He served in the South Pacific, China, Japan and was honorably discharged on March 5, 1946. Joe managed Red Oak Telephone Exchange until 1958 and went to work for Southwestern Bell in Dallas until his retirement on February 24, 1987. He was a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge in Waxahachie. He was a member of the Red Oak Methodist Church from 1950 until moving to Waxahachie and joining the First United Methodist Church in June 1991. He was a member of the Red Oak Lions Club and the Red Oak School Board and Volunteer Fire Department. Joe had a great love of his family and many friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Doris Jean Smith of Waxahachie; daughter, Beverly Robinson and her husband, Jack of Waxahachie; son, Stephen Smith and his wife, Lisa of Red Oak; 3 grandsons, Jeff Robinson and his wife, Andrea, Michael Robinson and his wife, Ginger, Alex Robinson and his wife, Elizabeth, all of Waxahachie; granddaughter, Casey Jacobs and her husband, Joshua of Arlington; great grandsons, Ryan, Kyle, Austin, and Jax Robinson, and Conner Maines; great granddaughters, Rylee and Agatha Robinson and Kaiden Maines; sister, Mary Clyde Allbritton and her husband, Charles of San Antonio; nephew, Brian Allbritton of San Antonio.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Manuel Smith.

Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Galloway and Rev. Mike Alexander officiating. Interment will follow at Red Oak Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
