JOE WAYNE DICKINSON
"Thank you, Lord"
Joe Wayne "Papa" Dickinson looked up to catch a glimpse of Heaven when he saw his precious Lord's hand reach down and invite him to a "mansion on a hilltop" on Thursday, November 29, 2007. The invitation was graciously accepted.
Joe Wayne was born in Reagor Springs, Texas, on April 10, 1938. He previously lived in Maypearl and Lancaster, but was a current resident of Red Oak, Texas. Dad could be heard repeatedly saying during his time of suffering and frequent prayer times, "Thank you, Lord." These will be words, which are forever engrained in the hearts of those who were blessed enough to have known him.
Joe's family meant the world to him...He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janis Treese Dickinson; daughter, Janita (Royce) Thornal of Red Oak, TX; and son, Jeff (Kathy) Dickinson of Graham, TX; granddaughters: Kelsie (Jeremy) Irion, Alyssa Dickinson, and Sadie Dickinson; great-granddaughter, Kahlen Irion; two brothers: Lee Vaughn (Patsy) Dickinson of Waxahachie, TX and Jerry D. (Sharon) Dickinson of Lancaster, TX, along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and acquaintances. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Lee and Ethel Mae Lockley Dickinson; two brothers: Eddie Dwain and Donnie Ray and two sisters: Mary Dee and Alice Marie (Mayfield).
Joe came to know the Lord as his personal savior and continued to serve Him until his last breath. He worshipped as a member of Eastridge Baptist Church of Red Oak. Through his life, he was active the Lord in serving in numerous capacities, such as youth minister, teaching Sunday School, running the music sound board, while producing and teaching "Financial Freedom" methods along with mentoring individuals who walked through this life's journey with him.
Joe spent his working years in the accounting field and retired as Controller from AVW Audio Visual in Dallas, TX. He also held various positions with Automatic Data Processing (ADP); University Computing Company (UCC); Western Union Telegraph and as a grocery store butcher. Joe was a friend to all who knew him. He would make you laugh even if you felt like crying, but most of all, he showed you how life was to be experienced through knowledge and wisdom. You would always come away from a conversation with him, a wiser person. Dad would touch the lives of those in recent years with his love for Hot Wheels. Many children's lives have been blessed as a result of his loving generosity. We are grateful for his life, which has so graciously been shared with us. Joe would want you to know that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (2 Cor. 5:8).
Funeral services will be held at Eastridge Baptist Church on December 3, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Red Oak Cemetery. The family will receive guests at Red Oak Funeral Home on December 2, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established through Eastridge Baptist Church for a new athletic field. Join us in helping keep Joe's life touching others for years to come. Thank you, Lord.
