Joan Greene Davis, Age 81 November, 5, 1929 February 11, 2011 Joan Davis passed away peacefully early Friday morning at the Ennis Care Center Ennis, Texas. Joan was the daughter of Dr. F. A. and Maurine Dunaway Greene. She was raised in Crosbyton, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Willard Davis Jr. They were married in 1946 in Dickens, Texas. Joan worked side by side with Willard as a Rancher and Cowgirl. Early in their marriage they ‘day worked' for most of the large West Texas ranches and rodeoed on weekends. After a few years in the racehorse business, they moved to Florida, where both were instrumental in establishing the Florida Cutting Horse Association. They moved to Waxahachie in 1964. Joan's achievements were many: Member of the National Cutting Horse Association, Florida Cutting Horse Association, and American Quarter Horse Association. She was the first woman to show a cutting horse in the state of Florida. She won many awards in barrel racing, reining, western pleasure and halter events, as well as many cutting horse contests, often times competing against her husband, who was her mentor and trainer. Joan was a 4-H Adult Leader for 13 years, teaching showmanship, western pleasure, reining, and judging. Joan is survived by her two daughters Juan Davis and Monica Davis of Waxahachie, two grandsons Dusty Autrey and his wife Kristi of Waxahachie, Cody Autrey and his wife Terra of Kentucky, one great granddaughter Lani Autrey of Waxahachie, one great grandson Coy Autrey of Kentucky, sister Ann Bynum of Maypearl and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Willard Davis, her parents, and daughter Cody Ann Davis. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 PM Sunday evening at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be at 2 PM Monday, February 14, 2011 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Ken Ansell of Frontier Church officiating. Pallbearers will be: James Bynum, J B (Johnny Boy) Sims, Joe Wright, Gary Don Autrey, Hoyt Alexander, Dennis Brearley, Mitch Miller, and Mike Collier.
