Mrs. Griffin passed away Sunday at the IOOF Nursing Home in Ennis. Jo was born in Waxahachie to Josephus S. and Gertrude Iverson Adkins Shinpaugh. She graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1941 and married Oscar Monroe "Jake" Herring in October of 1941. She was employed as a seamstress with Waxahachie Garment Company and Haggar Slacks. She was later employed as a receptionist with Union Fidelity Life Insurance Company. Jo was a member of the Ferris Ave. Baptist Church, Waxahachie Chapter of the Rebekah Lodge, and Winning Walkers of Baylor Hospital. After her first husband passed away she married Thomas Griffin in March of 1967. Jo was a homemaker, great cook, wonderful grandmother and was known for her hospitality.

Surviving her are her daughter Nelda Graham and her husband Rusty, 2 brothers Oscar and Jean Shinpaugh, Edward Shinpaugh, 1sister Virginia Slayden all of Waxahachie. Also surviving are; 2 sisters-in-law, Marie Sharp of Waxahachie, Mildred Goodwin of Arlington, 2 grandchildren; Ginger and Dr. Scott Clinton, Greg and Becky Graham of Waxahachie, 3 great grandchildren; Jake Clinton, Cade Clinton, and PeytonGraham.

Preceding her in death are her parents, both husbands, 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, February 14, 2006 in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel with Dr. Shane Kennison officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Burial Park. Pallbearers will be her nephews: Lynn Lawson, Dan Allard, Ricky Shinpaugh, David Shinpaugh, Dwayne Shinpaugh, Layne Shinpaugh. Memorials may be made to the Sims Library or the Alzheimer's Association.
