Jo Anna Moody Elkington, 90, passed away peacefully December 10, 2021 in Prosper, TX. Jo Anna was the youngest of three children born to Otis M. Moody and Eula Lavada Brown Moody on September 1, 1931 in Dallas TX.
Raised in Cockrell Hill, Jo Anna attended Sunset High School along with her sister, Fern, and brother, James Otis. After graduation, she worked at the movie theater and local cafe in Cockrell Hill until she met and married her husband, Joseph William Elkington, Jr. They were married on September 15, 1950 at which time she worked for Republic Insurance in Dallas. Joe and Jo Anna were married 64 years.
Her greatest joy was raising her three children. She was very active in the George B. Dealey Order of Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron. The family moved to Waxahachie in 1977 and Jo Anna went to work for the Waxahachie Police Department as a reserve officer, going through training and qualifying with firearms, meeting with undercover agents in the field; and eventually becoming the Chief Secretary to the Police Chief where she worked for over 16 years before retiring. Jo Anna loved to travel and visit family. She loved everything cowboy, Alan Jackson, and the Hill Country.
Jo Anna was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister, granddaughter, Shelly Nowell Garcia, and husband, Joe. She is survived by her children: Rolinda Jo Nobles and husband, Donald; Joe Randal Elkington and wife, Vickie; and Bobbie Jo Davis and husband, Gary. Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Tribute Senior Assisted Living and Anchor of Hope Hospice for their loving care during the past year.
