Jimmy Williams was born on July 16, 1942, in Columbus, Georgia, to Louis and Mamie Williams and grew up in Phenix City, Alabama. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted at 17 ½ years of age in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country traveling around the world for twenty-seven years achieving the final rank of Major. Following his retirement from the military, he worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation in finance for ten years. After he joined the Air Force he started taking college classes at night and went on to achieve his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Tennessee in December 1969, and later received his Masters of Science in Management from Troy State University in June, 1986.
Jimmy committed his life to Christ at a young age and continued to live for Him throughout his life. His uncle, Rev. Dan Waller and Rev. Emory Andrews, both Assembly of God pastors, had a great influence on his spiritual formation and development. He was an avid student of the Bible and enjoyed studying and teaching God's Word. He was involved in a number of churches teaching Sunday School to youth and adults, as well as singing in the choir. His love for Bible preaching and Southern Gospel music led him to South Park Assembly of God in Waxahachie, where he faithfully attended. His church family was important to him as he enjoyed attending services and fellowshipping with God's people.
He loved all kinds of books and had a vast library that filled his home. He also enjoyed stamp collecting and had a large collection which he amassed over fifty years. His love for travel led him to many places in search for books and stamps.
Family was important to Jimmy as he looked forward to spending time with them at family gatherings, birthdays, and holiday celebrations. Known as Paw Paw to his grandchildren, he imparted his knowledge and wisdom of life.
Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Bettina Richardson and her husband, Terry, of San Antonio; Renae DuBose and her husband, Russ, of Maypearl, Texas; grandchildren, Tiffany Dupree and her husband, Jeff; Tara Richardson; Robbie DuBose and his wife, Kayla; Richie Dubose; Raegan DuBose; great grandchildren, Madeleine and Nathan Dupree; and former wife, Bette Abbe.
He was greatly loved and will be missed; but we have the wonderful hope that we will see him again in heaven.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 10, 2016 at South Park Assembly of God Church, Waxahachie. Interment will follow at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
