Jewell Green Ramsey, age 95

Gertrude Jewell Green Ramsey passed away Sunday evening at Baylor Medical Center in Waxahachie. She was born at home in the Lone Cedar Community of Ellis County, Texas on November 15, 1909 to Gertrude and George Green. She attended grammar school in Lone Cedar and graduated from Blooming Grove High School, where she met George E. Ramsey, Jr. also of Blooming grove. Jewell attended Baylor University in Waco while George attended Baylor Pharmacy School in Dallas until 1931 when they married. They moved from Blooming Grove to Waxahachie in 1941. She was a member of the Waxahachie Garden Club and a Charter Member of the W. C. Tennery Hospital Pink Ladies where she regularly worked in the gift shop and served as a Substitute Chairperson. As a member of the First Baptist Church, Waxahachie, Jewell served as treasurer of her Sunday School Class for a number of years. She held a variety of offices in the Women's Missionary Auxiliary and was Principal of the Cradle Roll for many years. She was especially cherished by her family and friends and will be missed greatly.
Mrs. Ramsey is survived by: George E. Ramsey III of Waxahachie; sisters-in-law, Margaret Bacon Ramsey of Norman, OK; and a first cousin, Jimmie Green of Corsicana. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, George E. Ramsey in 1978 and an infant brother.
The family will receive friends and relatives 6-8 PM Thursday at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be 2 PM Friday, January 7, 2005 at the First Baptist Church, Waxahachie with Dr. Leroy Fenton officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles May, T. D. Matthews, Kris Knight, and Ray Spradling. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lester Gregory Gegenheimer of Austin, Robert Green Gegenheimer of Pisgeh Ridge Farms, Wortham, Stephen Ramsey of Norman, OK., Harold B. Dorsey of Waxahachie, and Donald Reed Case of Dallas. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Burial Park.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
