Jewel Inez Griffith, 97, of Waxahachie, passed away with family at her side,Sunday, November 29, 2009 in Waxahachie. She was born to the late Bud and Loretta Ballard Wooley on December 29, 1911 in Palmer, Texas.
Jewel volunteered as a Pink Lady at Baylor Medical Center of Waxahachie. She was a Y-High Stepper at the YMCA in Waxahachie. She loved gardening, fishing and most of all spending time her family. She was known for her playful personality and her sweet smile. Her husband of 54 years often said he might have dated a Ruby and a Pearl but he married THE JEWEL. Jewel was a long time resident of Avalon and a member of Ferris Heights United Methodist Church in Waxahachie.
She is survived by her children, Betty Arnold and her husband, Robert of Hope, Arkansas, Clyde Griffith and his wife, Paula of Waxahachie, and Mary Kirton and her husband, Jim of Waxahachie; her sister-in-law, Ruth Wooley of Waxahachie;
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Griffith; 2 sons, J. B. and Max Griffith; sister, Lois Davis; 3 brothers, Paul Wooley, George Wooley and Sam Wooley; 2 grandsons, Gerald Griffith and Leslie Griffith.
The family also wishes to recognize her many friends and care givers at Pleasant Manor.
Services to celebrate Jewel's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hughes Cemetery in Avalon.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
